The Hero succumbs to a demonic influence and will need to make the decision to accept the demonic powers he has been gifted with, or reject them in favor or developing heroic talents. Enemies and battles will become more difficult and ferocious as the game progresses increasing the temptation to trade-off part of the Hero's soul for more power. The transformation of the character as he becomes subject, or not, to the demonic power will progress as more demonic or heroic abilities are obtained.
Bound By Flame gives players the ability to fully customize their characters at the start of the game, being able to alter the character's gender, and all aspects of their facial appearance. Obviously, the look they choose will have a direct effect on the appearance of the character as they become more demonic throughout the game.
The game is divided into chapters that offer many quests around the central storyline for Bound By Flame. The game also features crafting, allowing players to improve equipment such as weapons and armor. As the story progresses, companions will join the Hero on his journey and has the option to develop their relationship as a romance or a rivalry.
Real time battles combine tactical skills, dynamics and showmanship. Clashes are demanding, requiring both tactics and reflexes. Whilst it can be tempting to just throw yourself in the melee without any action plan, it is best to have a strategy of attack lest you become overwhelmed by opponents that are actually much tougher than they look. A whole array of strikes and moves are available to use and you also have skills and special powers that can help to overcome enemies. Player's can Parry or dodge their blows, counter-attack, break their guard, stun them or burn them down with the with your demon’s powers. Enemies will fight as a team and will attack from behind. Every time you go up a level, you gain skill points that you can use as you wish in the three talent trees. The talent trees represent the three facets of your character in combat: Martial Techniques represent your skills in two-handed weapon wielding; Fire Magic enables you to improve on fire demon spell casting; finally, the Way of the Shadow corresponds to your ability to wield daggers and merge into the night. Spend your skill points wisely, and you could specialize, gain new powers or improve your various skills.
